Back to school – how to make old uniform look new again

Sometimes school clothes that are looking a bit tired do not have to be thrown away but just need a little love and care to bring them back to life ready for a new school term.
Here a few tips that I thought may help us all to complete the mission of getting Kids back to school looking smart without it costing a fortune. Try out these cleaning tips...

My first tip comes from Clarks and they explained how they would smarten up old trainers or school shoes ;
Advice on how to clean trainers

I have been in contact with our Global Laboratory Services Manager who would deal with the quality control of the materials used in our products.

He knows a lot about the materials shoes are made out of and so I passed your query to him so I could get some professional advise that I could feedback to you.

These are the products he has advised that could be used to cleaning old shoes/trainers.

1) Wet wipes are fantastic cleaners this would be my first attempt. These can be used on all different type of materials and wouldnt damage/mark or stain them.

2) Alcohol based wipes found in first aid kits.  These can also be used to clean tougher stains.

3) Try a cream cleaner with some mild abrasive in, and using a soft cloth rub gently on the marks. Do not rub too hard, or with too much cleaner as this can damage the surface of the shoes. A minimal amount of cleaner should be sufficient.

4) Nail polish remover applied with a soft cloth as above only a minimal amount should be used, and contained to the areas that are required to be cleaned. Do not let the remover sit wet on the sole surface for any longer than necessary.

5) Clarks do a popular shoe care range which includes Cleaners, Restorers, Polishers & protectors. We have a very popular Shoe Cream that renovates, nourishes and protects all leather, including smooth, grained and delicate finishes. The cream can resists rain and stains and buffs to a brilliant lustre. This is available in all colours and can be found in any full price Clark store.

Please be aware that in points 3 & 4 above be careful not to over apply the solution or apply onto other areas of the shoes.
Also for nail polish remover, care needs to be taken by ensuring skin and eyes are protected while applying.
